Four bells start ringing simultaneously at 19:02:08 O' clock

Given:

Four bells ring at intervals 4, 6, 8 and 14 seconds.

They ring simultaneously at 19:00 O' clock.

To find:

When will the bells ring together = ?

Solution:

Four bells ring :

1. At interval 4=2 \times 2

2. At interval 6=2 \times 3

3. At interval 8=2 \times 4=2 \times 2 \times 2

4. At interval 14=2 \times 7

L.C.M. of 4, 6, 8 and 14=2 \times 2 \times \times 3 \times 7=8 \times 21

= 168 seconds

i.e. \frac{168}{60}= 2.8\ \text{minutes}

Thus, at 19:02:08 O' clock, the bells will ring simultaneously again.
