Solution :

Step 1 of 2 :

Calculate LCM of the intervals

Here it is given that the four bells toll at intervals of 5 min , 10 min , 15 min and 20 min respectively

Now

5 = 5 × 1

10 = 2 × 5

15 = 3 × 5

20 = 2 × 2 × 5

LCM of 5 , 10 , 15 , 20 = 2 × 2 × 3 × 5 = 60

∴ LCM of the intervals

= LCM of 5 min , 10 min , 15 min and 20 min

= 60 min

= 1 hour

Step 2 of 2 :

Find the time when they will toll together next time

It is given that four bells toll simultaneously at 10:00 a.m

Since LCM of the intervals = 1 hour

∴ Four bells will toll together at

= 10 am + 1 hour

= 11:00 am
