Four circles are drawn from the four corners of a square. The diameter of each circle is equal to the side of the square and hence the adjacent circles touch each other at the midpoint of the side of the square. If the side of the square is 14 cm. Side of square = 14 cm

Therefore , Area of square = (S×S ) cm2

= 14 × 14 = 196 cm2

Now , According to the question :-

Diameter of circle = 14 cm

Radius of circle = (14 / 2) cm = 7cm

Area of circle = Pie R2

= 22/7 × (7× 7)

= 22/7 × 49

= 154 cm2

Therefore , Area of unoccupied space

= 196 cm2 — 154 cm2

= 42 cm2

Therefore , Area of unoccupied space is 42 cm2 .
