If the radius of each of the circles is 3 cm,then the area of the rectangle enclosing the four circles is 144 cm² and the area of each circle is  28.28².

Step-by-step explanation:

It is given that,

The radius of each circle, r = 3 cm

There are 4 circles drawn in a line and is enclosed within a rectangle as shown in the figure attached below.

Case 1: Area of rectangle

Referring to the figure we can find the diameter of each of the circle vertically, which will correspond to the breadth of the rectangle.

The diameter of each circle = The breadth of the rectangle = 2 * r = 2 * 3 = 6 cm

Also, we can find the length of the rectangle by joining the diameters of each of the circle.

Therefore,

The length of the rectangle = 4 * [diameter of each circle] = 4 * 6 = 24 cm

Thus,

The area of the rectangle is,

= length * breadth

= 24 * 6

= 144 cm²

Case 2: Area of each circle

Thus,

The area of each circle is given by,

= πr²

= (22/7) * (3)²

= 28.28 cm²
