In the attached photo we can see the medal placed and the shaded area which we have to find.

For calculating the shaded area, we deduct segments of circle from area of square.

  • Area of Square = a²

      = 7² = 49cm²

  • 4*Area of segment of circle = 4*(Angles subtended by circle/360)*πr²

    = (4*90°/360)*3.14*3.5²

     = 360/360*3.14*12.25

     = 1*3.14*12.25

     = 38.46cm²

  • Shaded area = Area of Square - 4*Segments of circle

                               = 49 - 38.46

                               = 10.54cm²

Hence, the shaded area is 10.54cm²

Answer:

10.54 cm^{2}

Step-by-step explanation:

Solution

Area of Square =

     = 7² = 49cm²

4*Area of segment of circle = 4*(Angles subtended by circle/360)*\pi r^{2}

   = (4*90°/360)*3.14*3.5²

    = 360/360*3.14*12.25

    = 38.46cm²

Shaded area = Area of Square - 4*Segments of circle

                              = 49 - 38.46

                              = 10.54cm²
