Four identical square are cut from the corners of the rectangular sheet of cardboard shown. This sheet is then folded along the dotted lines and taped to make a box with an open top. The base of the box measures 5 cm by 4 cm. The volume of the box is 60 cm3. What was the area of the original sheet of cardboard?

Answer:

This questions is hard and has a main role of visualizing it so try to visualize it. Answer is 110cm^{2}

Step-by-step explanation:

Volume given = 60cm^3

l = 5cm, b = 4cm

To find h,

lbh = volume

5x4xh = 60

h=60/20

h=3cm

Now let's try to find the actual length of the Original cardboard:

Length of the cut square = h    (Try to imagine that when the box will be opened the h will become side of the cut square)

so, the length of card board = 3+3+5 = 11

l=11cm.

Same as previous, breadth will be:

breadth = 3+3+4

b=10cm.

Now the area of the original cardboard:

lxb = 11x10 = 110cm^{2}

Hope it helped =)
