Answer:

3

Step-by-step explanation:

Given

Four numbers are in proportion. The sum of the squares of the four numbers is 50 and the sum of the mean is 5. The ratio of first two terms 1:3. What   is the average of the four numbers?

Given

Now a : b : : c : d

a^2 + b^2 + c^2 + d^2 = 50

a + c = 5

a : b = 1 : 3 then c = 5 – 3 = 2

So 1 : 3 = 2 : d

So d = 6

Now a^2 + b^2 + c^2 + d^2

1^2 + 3^2 + 2^2 + 6^2 = 50

Therefore average of a,b,c and d

will be a + b + c + d / 4

= 1 + 3 + 2 + 6 / 4

= 12/4

= 3

So average of four numbers is 3
