he British decided to educate the people of India because of their profit. they thought ht India was an uncivilized country without the British education and they also thought that only the British could civilize them

They also  decided  to educate Indians for the job of clerk.

because they wanted to learn about India and it's history. They wanted Indians to serve under them as Indian officials can help the britishers in their governance.
