To solve this problem, we can first translate the word problem into an algebraic format

4 times (multiplied by / x ) a number (which we can represent with n) is equal to that same number n increased ( plus / +) 78.

So our equation looks like this: 4n=n+78

Now we can solve it. As the first step to solve it, we should get the n's on the same side of the equation. We can easily do this by subtracting n from both sides, since there is an n by itself on the right side, with the + 78.

Now we have 3n=78

Now, we can just divide both sides by 3 to find n.

n= 26. To double check our work, we can substitute 26 back into our equation in place of n and make sure both sides of the equation match.

4(26) = 26 + 78

4x 26 = 104

26 + 78 = 104

So, 26 is the correct solution.
