4 × a number + 9 = 36
4 × a number = 36 - 9
4 × a number = 27
a number = 27/4

LET THE GIVEN NUMBER BE 'X'
AS PER QUESION 4 TIMES THE NUMBER = 4X&
INCREASED BY 9= 4X+9
GIVES 36= 4X+9 = 36
SO 4X = 36 -9 i.e 4X = 27
So X = 27 ÷ 4
So the GIVEN NUMBER IS 27 ÷4
