I answered I must admit getting it correct with my very first attempt at guessing and working it out from there. I first guessed that if it were possible for the child to be nine times younger than the mother I guessed that at 5 years old if I multiplied this by nine I would get 45 as my answer to the mothers age and so from 45 I had to be sure that if in another 5 years the mother were 50 years old I then divided 50 by the 5 times and sure enough the answer was 10 years old in 5 years from the daughters age which is the same as 5 years plus 5 years . My sums all added up and so I submit 45 years as the mothers age. However another way to look at it is in 5 years the mother will be 5 times her own age which makes 5 that you must devise that if you divide by five the number that was the multiple the mother at this point is actually less than 1 year old as 1 multiplied by 5 is 5 that is the age she shall be in 5 years therefore take 5 away would be 0 and then 0+ 5 = 5.
