Given:

✭ Four times a number + Four times another number gives us 57

✭ Three times the second number - Five times the first number gives us 25

To Find

◈ The two numbers

Solution

Let the first number be x

Let the second number be y

›› 4x + 5y = 57-----(1)

By the second case,

›› 5x - 3y = 25----(2)

Multiply first equation by 5 and and second equation by 4

➳ 20x + 25y = 285

➳ 20x - 12y = 100

Solving by elimination method

➳ 37y = 185

➳ y = 185/37

➳ y = 5

Substitute the value of y in equation 1

»» 4x + 5 × 5 = 57

»» 4x +25 = 57

»» 4x = 32

»» x = 8
