THERE ARE FIVE TYPES OF FORESTS FOUND IN INDIA:

(1) TROPICAL EVERGREEN FORESTS

(2) TROPICAL DECIDUOUS FORESTS

(3) THRONE FORESTS

(4) MONTANE FORESTS

(5) MANGROVE FORESTS


DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TROPICAL EVERGREEN FORESTS AND TROPICAL DECIDUOUS FORESTS:

TROPICAL EVERGREEN FORESTS:

(1) These forests are found in the regions receiving rainfall more than 200 cm.

(2) Luxuriant vegetation of all-kinds; shrubs & creepers grow in these forests.

(3) There is no particular time for the trees to shed leaves; they appear green throughout the year.

(4) They are found in Western ghats, Assam, Lakshawdeep, Andaman-nicobar.

(5) Ebony, Rosewood, Mahogany, Cinchona etc are the main trees found in these forests.

TROPICAL DECIDUOUS FORESTS:

(1) These forests are found in the regions receiving rainfall between 70 to 200 cm.

(2) On the basis of availability of water, they are divided into moist and dry deciduous forests.

(3) Trees of these forests have a particular time to shed leaves; for 6-8 weeks in dry summer.

(4) They are found in Jharkhand, Eastern ghats, Bihar & Uttar Pradesh.

(5) Teak, Sal, Neem, Sandalwood, Bamboo etc are the main trees found in these forests.

EVERGREEN FOREST

These forests are restricted to heavy rainfall

they are found in the areas of the Western Ghats and island groups of Lakshadweep Andaman Nicobar upper part of Assam and Tamil nadu coast

they are at their best in areas having more than 200 CM of rainfall with a short dry season

the trees reach great heights of 60 metres or even above

Some of the important trees in this forest are ebony, mahogany ,Rosewood, rubber and Cinchona

The common animals found in this forest are elephants ,monkey, lemurs and deer.

the one horned rhinoceros are found in the jungles of Assam and West Bengal

besides animals plenty of birds,bats,sloth,scorpions and snails are found in this jungle.

there is no definite time for trees to shed there leaves

TROPICAL DECIDUOUS FOREST

These are the most widespread forest of India

they are also called the monsoon forests

they spread over the region receiving rainfall between 200 cm and 70 cm

trees of this forest type shed their leaves about 6 to 8 weeks in during summer

there are two types of deciduous forest deciduous and dry deciduous

forest found in the North Eastern states along the foothills of Himalayas on the eastern slopes of Western Ghats

teak is the most dominant species of this forest

bamboo ,Sal,sandal wood ,khair, Arjun ,Mulberry other commonly important species

the common animals found are lion ,tiger and elephant

and huge variety of birds ,lizards, Snakes and tortoise are also found here
