Step-by-step explanation:

Let assume present age of the mother is X and Daughter’s present age is Y.

Step 1

Sum of therir present age is 56.

Equation 1 : X + Y = 56

Equation 2 : X = ( 56 - Y )

4 years ago therie age ratio is 3:1.

Step 2

Equation 3 : [ (X-4) / (Y-4) ] = [ 3 / 1 ]

From Equation 1 and Equation 2 we can write Equation 3 as

by put value X = ( 56 - Y ) we get

[ (56 - Y) - 4 / (Y - 4) ] = [ 3 / 1 ]

(56 - Y) - 4 = 3 (Y - 4)

52 - Y = 3Y - 12

64 = 4Y

Y = 16

And by putting value Y in Equation 2 we get

X = ( 56 - Y )

X = 40

We can say that Present age for Daughter is 16 years and Mother is 40 Years old.
