_______________

\huge\purple{Mass Spectrometry }

"Mass soectrometry is used to determine atomic and moecular masses ".

\huge\red{Steps:-}

1▪ In this method , a sample is injected as a gas into ionization chamber .

2▪ Electrons from the electron gun collide with the sample atom or molecule .

3▪ This collision cause sample atom or molecule to knock out their electrons and they become positive ions .

4▪These positive ions are accelerated by the electric field and finally reach a region where an elevtromagnet ois applied .

5▪Different ions separate on the basis of m/e ratio .

6▪In magnetic field the ions deflect in circular path .

7▪Lighter ions thatnis with low m/e deflect to larger extent than heavier ions .

8▪At a time only one kind of ions strikes the detector ,here electrical signal is produced which is amplified by an amplifier .

9▪In recorder the electrical current operates a pen which traces peaks on a chart .

10▪ The intensity of electric signal is directly proportional to the number of ions stricking the detector (Remember this line ).

So......

IN THIS WAY FRAGMENTATION PATTERN IN MASS SPECTROMETRY IS DETERMINED .
