consecutive number = x +1-----(2)

x + x+ 1 = 31

2x = 30

x = 15

putting x=15 in equation (2)

we get

x+1

here x=15

[15+1=16]

so the consecutive number is 16

∴numbers= 15, 16

difference in squares = 16^2 - 15^2

= 256 - 225

= 31
