In 1789, due to food shortages and the ensuing economic crises, a revolution broke out in France. In history, it came to be known as French Revolution. This led to the overthrow of the monarch and his consort; King Louis and his queen, Marie-Antoinette, were imprisoned in August 1792. In September that year Monarchy was abolished in France.
