FREE BIO NOTES I. New Words: 1. meristematic 7. phloem 2. cuticle 8. epithelium 3. parenchyma 9. adipocyte 4. collenchyma 10. ligament 5. sclerenchyma 11. osteoblast 6. xylem 12. Chondrocyte II. Open Book Test: 1. State the location, function of three types of meristematic tissue along with the diagram. 2. Draw a neat labelled diagram of neuron. Plant Tissue I. Important Points: 1. Meristematic tissue is a group of young living cells , that can divide and form new cells. 2. Permanent tissues are of two types: a. Simple Permanent Tissue b. Complex Permanent Tissue 3. Complex permanent tissues are made up of two or more different types of cells that work together as a unit. II. What Happens: 1. When the tip of a stem is cut again and again. A. As apical meristems are present at the tip of the plant which helps in the growth of the plant in height, if it is removed/ cut again and again growth will stop. 2. When the xylem is removed from the stem of the plant. A. If the xylem of the plant is removed, upward movement of water will stop leading to wilting of leaves and ultimately causes the death of a plant. Animal tissue I. Important Points 1. Epithelial tissue is made up of closely packed cells. 2. Its main function is protection, secrete mucus and saliva and absorption of digested food. 3. Connective tissue is of three types: a. Fibrous Connective Tissue b. Supportive Connective Tissue c. Fluid Connective Tissue 4. Cardiac muscles are special types of involuntary muscle that work continuously. III. Give Biological Reason For The Following: 1. Blood is called fluid connective tissue. Reason: As it connects all the organ systems of the body by transporting oxygen, hormones etc and removing wastes from these organs. 2. Voluntary muscles are called skeletal muscles.
