Moderates
The Early Nationalists were known as the Moderates. They were a group of political leaders in the Indian National Congress who were active between 1885 and 1905. W.C. Banerjee, Rash Behari Ghosh, Surendranath Banerjee, R.C. Dutt, Dadabhai Naoroji, Gopal Krishna Gokhale were some of them. They had faith in the British sense of justice and integrity. They tried to achieve their aims by using constitutional and peaceful means. They believed in open-minded and moderate politics.
Radicals
The radical nationalists or extremist leaders dominated the Indian National Congress between 1905 to 1920. They believed that boldness was required for any success. They wanted complete Swaraj.
