Answer:

ABSTRACT Rhesus Factor is an antigen that exists on the surface of red blood cells in most people (about 60% of humans). It is also referred to as “Rh Factor”. People who have the Rh “positive” (+) blood types, such as A+, O+ or B+ are said to be Rhesus Factor positive, while those who have the Rh “negative” (-) blood types, such as A–, O– or AB– are said to be Rhesus Factor negative. The “+” and “-” in front of the blood group is the Rhesus factor. Rhesus factor is genetic in nature as it is inherited from the parents, emphatically the father. Its importance has been under-emphasized over the years as attention has always been given to blood genotyping and its role in marriage compatibility. However, recent medical attention has been unequivocally drawn to the role of rhesus factor in marriage compatibility, child bearing, miscarriages as well as barrenness due to their alarming rate in the last decade. If a Rh– woman is impregnated by a man with Rh–, there wouldn’t be any problem. However, if a Rh– woman is impregnated by a man with Rh+, there would be a problem this could be life threatening. Fortunately, if handled carefully and professionally, its unpleasant and life-threatening consequences could be averted. Hence, there is a great need to sensitize the entire populace about the great health importance and implication of the topic sentence - RHESUS FACTOR.
