Yes friction is both a foe and a friend
Sometimes we don't require any friction like while we are playing carrom and even the working of machines but in such cases the friction acts against the sliding material and thus produces the wear and tear of machines and even the accuracy in playing carrom reduces
However in some cases like tight turns around hills it requires a lot of friction
and if the friction doesn't act in such cases then it is very fatal hence during such cases the friction helps in saving life
Thus friction is both a friend as well as a foe
Hope this helped u :-)
