Answer and Explanation:

Friction plays a very important role in our daily life.

State one advantage and one disadvantage that friction has on:-

i) Shoes ii) Car tyres iii) Cycling

Ans:(i) Advantage:-It helps us walk on the ground

Disadvantage:-When the soles of shoes rub against the rough surface of road, then tiny pieces of the soles keep on breaking off slowly due to which the soles of our shoes wear out gradually. The wear and tear of the soles of our shoes ultimately causes holes in the soles.

(ii)Advantage:-On car tyres, cars are able to move safely on the roads because of the friction between the treaded tyres and the surface of the road.

Disadvantage:-The force responsible for the wearing out of car tyres is frictional force. The reason behind this is, when the car moves forward, the tyres experiences opposite force and got wear out.

(iii) Cycling- When we are cycling or riding a bicycle on the road then the brakes on the cycles work because of friction. On riding your bicycle over harsh uneven surfaces you will find it much harder to pedal than if you were traveling over smooth, even surfaces.
