The scientific name of Tulsi is Ocimum Tenuiflorum. It is an herb. It has short and tender stem. The stem and branches of Tulsi are hairy. We can find two types of tulsi plants. Some are green in colour and some are purplish. Tulsi is more valued for its medicinal properties. Tulsi plant in India is worshipped and so it is found cultivated in majority of the houses. In countries like Thai and some regions of Europe, tulsi is used in cooking. The tulsi extracts are used in ayurveda for variety of aliments. It is also used in herbal cosmetics. It also acts as insect repellent.
