it is because earlier deserts where forest but due to the regular cutting of forest the is soil erosion took place that resulted in removal of top layer of soil nd the bed rock started to break down in order to become soil but this soil was infertile and known as sand .

1,humans started deforestation which causes Desertification i.e, converts the land into desert....
2,i guess they would be worried because printing needs paper and to make paper trees are required which causes deforestation and Desertification.....
