Carbon : - It is a naturally occuring element of the nature.
It is a non metal.
It comes 6th in the periodic table.

Electronic configuration : -
Carbon's atomis number is 6 i.e., it has six protons in it's nucleus.

The mass number of carbon is 12 i.e, it has 6 neutrons + 6 protons in it's nucleus.

The general configuration of carbon(shell wise) is 2,4.
( K = 2 e- , L = 4 e-)

The general configuration of carbon(orbit wise) is : -
1s^2, 2s^2, 2p^2.

Compounds of carbon refers to all the compounds which consists of carbon and other elements in comparable ratio.

The unique quality of carbon is that it forms uncountable no. of compounds with other elements due to it's covalency of four i.e, tetra-valency.

Carbon also has a property of catenation i.e, self combination, at a very high rate. Thousands of carbon atoms can combine in linear or branched structures to form many different types of compounds.
