Friends are human assets for us on Earth. Our friend can be anyone from family or locality or from colleagues or from some other country. When we interact with our friend in synchronous way and feel similar on several occasions, we come closer. When we help each other in case of need, we become friends.
Often when we are in need of some advice, assistance or we are in difficulty, we approach our close friend first. Often friends do not expect a lot from their friends in return for the favors. Thus we build our friendship to be an asset, which comes in handy when we are in need or trouble. To earn good friends, it is not necessary to spend a lot of money. Good behavior and nice interpersonal interaction and honesty are sufficient.
One good example from Mahabharat is the story of Sudama (kuchela) and Lord Krishna. Of course when we say friends, we mean honest, helping, and considerate friends. Thus we can say the friends are the greatest human assets that we possess.
