Frogs and fishes lay hundred of eggs at a time. However their number is very less. Why?

Frogs and fishes lay hundreds of eggs, but these are unfertilised eggs. When the male organism provides male gamete (sperm) to the eggs, they become fertilised and grow into new organism, but not all of the eggs are fertilised and hence their population is controlled.

Because very less eggs are fertilized and so the population is less
