Given:

Total number of apples = 5

Total number of mangoes = 4

Total number of bananas = 3

To find:

In how many ways we can select at least 2 fruits of each variety of fruits of same species are

i) identical

ii) different?

Solution:

  • When the variety of fruits of same species are identical.

We can choose fruits in following ways:

1 apple 1 mango

1 apple 1 banana

1 mango 1 banana

2 apples

2 mangoes

2 bananas

There total number of ways will be 6.

  • When the variety of fruits of same species are not identical.

They can be considered as different fruits.

12C6 = 66 ways

Therefore total number of ways will be 66.
