Answer:

The number for the given statement is 2.5

Step-by-step explanation:

Given as :

The number = x

The statement are

(i) 10 is subtracted from 5 times a number

So, The statement can be written as

5 × number - 10

i.e 5 × x - 10           ........A

And

(ii) Thrice the number minus 5

So, The statement can be written as

3 × number - 5

i.e 3 × x - 5              ..........B

According to question

Both the statement are equal

i,e The eq A = the eq B

Or, 5 × x - 10 = 3 × x - 5

Now, rearranging the left hand side and right hand side

5 x - 3 x = 10 - 5

Or, 2 x = 5

∴ x = \dfrac{5}{2}

i.e  x = 2.5

So, The number for the given statement = x = 2.5

Hence, The number for the given statement is 2.5    Answer
