From a corner of a square of side 5cm, a small square of side 1cm is cut off. The perimeter of the remaining part of the square remains the same

No, the perimeter of the remaining portion changes.

Big Square
S = 5 cm.

Small Square
s = 1 cm.

Perimeter remaining portion = Perimeter Big Square - Perimeter Small Square
⇒ 4(S) - 4(s)
⇒ 4*5 - 4*1
⇒20 - 4
⇒16 cm

∴ The perimeter of the remaining portion is 16 cm.
