Answer: The egg or any brittle thing breaks when thrown from a certain height breaks because of shock, in other words by effect of rapid deceleration.
•When you throw the egg from the height on a concrete floor it breaks because of the sudden and rapid deceleration which is enough to break the egg.
• But on the other hand if you throw an egg from the same height on a soft cushion pillow, and when the egg falling under gravity touches the soft cushion, it is decelerated too but in a longer interval, which actually mitigates the effect of falling and is not sufficient enough to break the egg.
