SOLUTION

GIVEN

From a grocery shop Priyanka bought 4 kg of rice and 6 kg of flour for 1700 and Charu bought 6 kg of rice and 4 kg of flour for 1800.

Consider the price of one kg of rice and that of one kg of flour be x and y respectively.

TO DETERMINE

The price of one kg flour

EVALUATION

Here it is given that

Price of one kg of rice = x

Price of one kg of flour = y

By condition 1

4x + 6y = 1700

On simplification we get

2x + 3y = 850 - - - - - (1)

By condition 2

6x + 4y = 1800

On simplification we get

3x + 2y = 900 - - - - - (2)

2 × Equation 1 - 3 × Equation 2 we get

4x - 9x = 1700 - 2700

⇒ - 5x = - 1000

⇒ x = 200

From Equation 1 we get

400 + 3y = 850

⇒ 3y = 450

⇒ y = 150

Price of one kg of rice = Rs 200

Price of one kg of flour = Rs 150

FINAL ANSWER

Price of one kg of flour = Rs 150
