From a point on the ground the angle of elevation of bottom and top of transmission towerfixed at the top of 20 m height building are 45 degree and 60 degree respectively find the height of the tower.

and AB is the transmission tower
in ∆ADC,AC/CD=tan 45°
AC=AB+BC
= x+20m.....(1)
=x+20/CD=1
=CD=x+20........(2)
in ∆BCD,BC/CD=tan 60°
BC/CD=√3
20/√3=CD.......(3)
from equation (2) and (3)
x+20=20/√3
x=20/√3-20
hence the height of the tower is 20/√3-20.
