  • Length of the rope=40m ,50cm

 = 40m ,50cm \times  \frac{1}{100}

1m = 100 \: and \: 1cm =  \frac{1}{100} m

 = 40 +  \frac{50}{100} m

 =  \frac{400 + 5}{10}  =  \frac{405}{10}

Length of pieces of rope to be made

 =2 \frac{1}{4}  =  \frac{9}{4} m

Number of pieces

 \frac{ \frac{405}{10} }{ \frac{9}{4} }

 =  \frac{405}{10}  \times  \frac{4}{9}

 \frac{405 \times 4}{10 \times 9}

 =  \frac{45 \times 2}{5}  = 9 \times 2 = 18 \: pieces

{∴18  \: pieces  \: of \:  rope \:  can  \: be \:  made  \: of  \: length}

 = 2 \frac{1}{4} m \: each
