Old ratio = 3x : 4x
After replacement,
New ratio =
1 : 2 = 3x - 10 : 4x +10
1/ 2 = 3x - 10 / 4x + 10
1(4x + 10) = (3x-10)2
4x +10 = 6x - 20
2x = 30
x = 15
Substituting back in old ratio
3(15) : 4(15)
45 : 60
After replacement,
New ratio =
1 : 2 = 3x - 10 : 4x +10
1/ 2 = 3x - 10 / 4x + 10
1(4x + 10) = (3x-10)2
4x +10 = 6x - 20
2x = 30
x = 15
Substituting back in old ratio
3(15) : 4(15)
45 : 60
