From a tank, completely filled till its brim, water was taken out in an amount equal to two-fifth of its
capacity. 130 litres of water was then added in the tank. As a result, only one-sixth of tank was left
empty. Find the capacity of the tank.

Let the maximum capacity of tank be x

x - 2/5(x) + 130 = x - 1/6(x) [according to statement]

5x - 2x/5 +130 = 6x - x /6

3x/5 + 130 = 5x/6

130 = 5x/6 - 3x/5

130 = 25x - 18x/30

130 = 7x /30

x = 130 × 30/7

x = 3900/7

x = 557.14285714285

The maximum capacity of the tank is 557.14285714285 litres
