From Class 10 Poem-3 A tiger in zoo
Can a tiger do all of the above in a zoo ??

POEM : “A TIGER IN THE ZOO” - By Leslie Norris

(1)He stalks in his vivid stripes

The few steps of his cage,

On pads of velvet quiet,

In his quiet rage.

(3) He should be snarling around houses

At the jungle’s edge,

Baring his white fangs, his claws,

Terrorizing the village!

(2) He should be lurking in shadow,

Sliding through long grass

Near the water hole

Where plump deer pass.

(4) But he’s locked in a concrete cell,

His strength behind bars,

Stalking the length of his cage,

Ignoring visitors.

(5) He hears the last voice at night,

The patrolling cars,

And stares with his brilliant eyes

At the brilliant stars

The tiger looks beautiful. It has stripes on its body, its paws are soft like velvet. The tiger is angry as he should be in the

forest near a water body waiting to catch its prey or making the villagers afraid showing its sharp teeth and claws .It is sad

that the tiger is in the zoo in a cell .He is so unhappy that he does not even look at the visitors in the zoo. At night he hears

the sirens of the patrolling cars but all he does is looks at the star lit sky as if dreaming of being free.

Animals are free beings and must not be kept in captivity.
