Hey dear,
● Crystal field theory (CFT) -
- It describes the breaking of orbital degeneracy in transition metal complexes due to the presence of ligands.
# In [Co(CN)6]3-
Cobalt has electronic configuration -
[Co] = [Ar] 3d7 4s2
[Co3+] = [Ar] 3d6 4s0
CN- being a strong ligand forms low spin complex with Co3+.
All electrons in 3d orbital of Co3+ pair with each other to form sp3d2 hybridization.
Hence, [Co(CN)6]3- has no unpaired electrons.
Thanks for asking..
