PV =nRT is the ideal gas equation.

Here n is the number of moles of the gas. As n=W/M, where W is the weight of the gas and M is molar mass of the gas.

W can be in kg or g. Hence, the unit of M comes out to be kg . mole−1 or g . mole−1 as Mliterally means mass of the gas per unit mole.
