From Indira Gandhi International Airport, two planes take off simultaneously. Flight A takes off towards East at an average speed of 150 m/s and another flight B takes off towards South at an average speed of 200 m/s. Find the shortest distance between them after 15 minutes of their flights.

Step-by-step explanation:

SPEED OF PLANE A = 150 M/S

TIME = 15 MINUTES = (15×60 SECONDS = 900 SECONDS)(CONVERTING 15 MINUTES INTO SECONDS)

WE KNOW

DISTANCE = SPEED × TIME

= 150×900

= 135000 M = 135 KM

SPEED OF PLANE B = 200M/S

TIME =15 MINUTES= 900 SECONDS

WE KNOW

DISTANCE = SPEED × TIME

= 200×900

=180000= 180 KM

DISTANCE COVERED BY PLANE A= 135 KM

DISTANCE COVERED BY PLANE B= 180 KM

AS PLANE A IS TRAVELLING IN EAST DIRECTION AND PLANE B IS TRAVELLING IN SOUTH DIRECTION

WE CAN FIND THE DISTANCE BETWEEN THEM USING PYTHOGORAS THEOREM AS WE CAN DRAW A LINE BETWEEN THE POINTS WHERE BOTH THE PLAINS HAVE REACHED RESULTING IN A RIGHT ANGLED TRIANGLE

HYPOTENUSE SIDE square = (BASE square)+(HIEGHT square)

=135 square + 180 square

=50625 square
