As she saw Marguerite hiding what she had got, Momma knew that she would not share them with Bailey. In turn, Bailey would have got upset if he knew that he did not get anything. So, she wanted to send Marguerite away from Bailey as soon as possible because she cared for Bailey and was concerned about his feelings. So, while she thanked Sister Flowers for her act, she hastily told Marguerite to go and change her dress before Bailey noticed what Marguerite had.
