In April 1989 triggered by the death of Hu Yaobang, a liberal reformer mass gathering and protest look place in and around Tiananmen square in Beijing. It was largely a student run demonstration which called for economic reform, freedom off the press and political liberalization. The Chinese government brutally suppress the movement for which it was internationally condemned.
