From the adjoining diagram, calculate

(i) the area of parallelogram ABDE
(ii) the area of triangle BCD​

Answer:

1: side of ed = 7 m

and we know that in parallelogram opposite sides are equal

therefore ed = ab = 7m

so bc = ac - ab = 13 - 7 = 6 m

so in triangle dbc

area = half of the products of altitude and corresponding

base

= 1 / 2 × 6 × 6.5

= 19.5 sq meters

2: we know that area of parallelogram is

= base × corresponding height

= 7 × 6.5

= 45.5 sq metres
