In following figure in which AB is BD can be explained as angle AD is a right angle which means it is 90 degree the opposite side of right angle is always hypotnuse which is the side with the maximum length. Same AC is greater than CD because angle AC is a hypotnuse.

AC+AB is greater than BC Because when we add both the hypotnuse we get maximum side length this the reason it is greater than BC
