QUESTION

From the following two equations, the value of X & Y will be respectively: X + 3 Y = 8 2 X + 5 Y = 12

Method to do ;

This problem can be solve by substitution method and elimination method.

SUBSTITUTION METHOD-

just by letting the equation as 1 and 2 and substituting the value of one on the other to find out the actual result of the solution .

SOLUTION -

X + 3y = 8

x = 8 - 3y .........1st eqn

2x + 5y = 12.........2nd eqn,

Now,

substituting the value of x in eqn second,

2( 8 - 3y ) + 5y = 12

16 - 6y + 5y = 12

16 - y = 12

y = 4

Hence,

y = 4

so,

pitting value of y in 1st eqn,

x = 8 - 3x 4

x = 8 - 12

x = -4
