Let :

  • Present Age of son = x
  • Present age of father = y

Given :

  • Present age of father is 20 year more than age of son
  • 5 year ago age of father was 6 time age of son

Equation :

y = x + 20 ...... equation 1

◈ Age of father, 5 years ago = (y-5)

Age of son , 5year ago = (x-5)

➜ (y-5) = 6(x-5)

➜ y - 5 = 6x - 30

➜ y = 6x - 30+5

y = 6x - 25 .......... equation 2

Solution :

Equating , equation 1 & 2 we get

➜ x + 20 = 6x - 25

➜ 6x - x = 20 + 25

➜ 5x = 45

➜ x = 45/5

➜ x = 9

PUTTING value of x in equation 1

➜ y = x + 20

➜ y = 9 + 20

y = 29 years

ANSWER :

Present age of father (y) = 29 years

Present age of son (x) = 9 years
