take d(P,Q) as point 1.
draw a line segment with P, R and Q points respectively and show the distance between the points as shown above.
add d(P,R) and d(Q,R).
the answer you get, mark it as point 2.
now write, from point 1 and point 2 d(P,Q) = d(P,R) + d(Q,R).
and therefore, point R is in between point P and point Q. and they are collinear.
