in Δ PQR

PQ = QR = PR = a  (equilateral triangle)

=> QS = QR = QR/2 = a/2

PS = √a² - (a/2)² = √3 a /2

in Δ PMS

MS = MQ + QS = a + a/2 = 3a/2

PS = √3 a /2

PM² = MS² + PS²

=> PM² = (3a/2)² + (√3 a /2)²

=> PM² = 9a²/4 + 3a²/4

=> PM² = 12a²/4

=> PM² = 3a²

=> PM = √3 a
