Hey there,
Like multiples are always added and subtracted, when you don't find any like terms the answer is left in the form as such.
So from adding 5x+3y-11 and y-13
we get : 5x + 2y +2
Subtracting 5x + y 2y + 2 and 2x + y -1
we get : 3x + y +3
Hope it helps...

Sum = 5x + 3y - 11 + ( -y + 13 )
= 5x + 3y - 11 - y + 13
= 5x + 2y + 2
Now, Subtracting 2x + y - 1 from 5x + 2y + 2
5x + 2y + 2 - ( 2x + y - 1 )
= 5x + 2y + 2 - 2x - y + 1
= 3x +y + 3.

= 5x + 3y - 11 - y + 13
= 5x + 2y + 2
Now, Subtracting 2x + y - 1 from 5x + 2y + 2
5x + 2y + 2 - ( 2x + y - 1 )
= 5x + 2y + 2 - 2x - y + 1
= 3x +y + 3.
