From the top of a tower 19.6m high, a ball is thrown horizontally. If the line joining the point of projection to the point where it hits ground makes an angle of 45 degree with the horizontal then initial velocity of ball is: a. 9.8 m/s b. 4.9 m/s c. 14.7 m/s d. 2.8 m/s

time duration t for the ball to reach the ground = t = √(2 h /g)
  t = √(2 *19.6/9.8) = 2 sec

horizontal distance traveled in 2 sec = 19.6 m (given, as angle is 45°)
       19.6 sec = u * 2 sec
          u = 9.8 sec
as the horizontal velocity component remains constant.
